This is a guide to important dates throughout the year. Some dates are approximate. Follow our Facebook page, sign up for our e-newsletter, or verify with us by phone (231-347-6531) or email (info@gwood.us) before making plans.



Seasonal schedule
March 1 - Winter items (wreaths and grave blankets) are removed by cemetery staff.
April 1 - Trinkets, small statues, wind chimes, etc. may be placed in flower beds or pots. Large pots are turned upright by cemetery staff
May 1 - Water faucets turned on (subject to weather)
Week before Memorial Day - Because we are busy preparing the grounds for Memorial Day, the cemetery crew cannot plant shrubbery for you during this week. (This is a service we offer any other time of the year)
September 15 - American flags are removed from veterans' graves
October 1 - Trinkets, small statuary, wind chimes, etc. will be removed by staff in preparation for leaf-blowing season. They will not be saved.
October 15 - Water faucets turned off for the winter.
November 1 - Flower pots tipped upside down by staff to prevent freezing/breaking
Friday after Thanksgiving - Wreaths and grave blankets may be placed.

Memorial Day - American Legion Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Honor Garden. Watch our Facebook page for time. Please enter through the Sheridan Street gate.

Third Saturday in December - Wreaths Across America wreath placement day beginning at 10 a.m. This has grown to be a treasured local event where people bring their friends and families to the cemetery to help place wreaths on the graves of veterans.

The cemetery office is closed in observance of these holidays. We do offer interments on these days (unless they land on a Sunday), but with an added charge used toward overtime pay for staff.
